Cold:
One of the generally accepted downfalls of tile in comparison with hard wood or carpet is that tile does not absorb or hold onto heat very well, meaning that it can be quite cold on your feet during the winter, or in rooms that are air conditioned or do not have area rugs placed within them.
A way to mitigate this coldness on your feet; however, would be to add a floor heating system underneath the tile. Schluter Systems has a heat cable system that can be used in any size or shape of room, and this will allow you to have a warm floor at any time throughout the year. Feel free to ask about this product when you are looking for tile, as we offer a variety of in-stock Schluter products.
Installation:
Tile is often a labor-intensive product to install, and can be more difficult for a homeowner to complete on their own than vinyl plank or hardwood. There are a lot of steps to consider when installing tile, and a variety of installation products available on the market that may or may not be suitable for the use you have intended it for.
Any homeowners who would like to install their own tile should be careful to select products that are suitable to the project that they are undertaking, and should feel free to contact us at Eksa should they have any questions or concerns about the job that they are undertaking. We are happy to provide installation advice at any time for the tiles that we carry, or to recommend a reputable professional installer based on your project needs!
Grout can be difficult to maintain:
While tile itself is easy to maintain, the grout used in the joints between tile can require a bit more attention to prevent stain and mildew build-up. This is an incredibly easy challenge to overcome, though, by simply sealing your grout joints, if necessary, after the grout has sufficiently cured (approximately 48 hours after installation). At Eksa we readily stock Custom’s Prism grout, which ensures uniform consistent colour with no efflorescence and no need to use a sealer. Please feel free to inquire about your grout and sealer options when selecting the tile that you will be using in your project.
